School of Studies
in Environmental Science was founded in 2011. It offers postgraduate and
research degree programs in Environmental Science. It is a new department of
the University. School of Studies in Environmental Science covers the following
topics/areas for the M.Sc. course such as Renewable, Non-renewable and
Perpetual Resources, Analytical Methods in Environmental Sciences, Instrumental
Techniques: Principle and Application, Meteorology and Climatology,
Environmental Pollution and Control: Air and Water, Environmental Geosciences,
Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Microbiology, Environmental
Biotechnology, Data Analysis in Environmental Sciences, Remote Sensing and GIS,
Environmental Disaster and Risk, Environmental Impact Assessment,
Environmental Audit and Environmental Management System Standards and
Environmental Law, Policies, and Society.
The major fields
of research are: Renewable energy, Water Pollution, Soil Pollution, Heavy Metal
Pollution, Air quality monitoring, and analysis, Atmospheric organics including
carbonaceous fractions, volatile organic compounds, polycyclic aromatic
hydrocarbon, Air quality, and health, etc.
The Environmental
Science is a multi-disciplinary subject because it comprises various branches
of science like chemistry, physics, medical science, life science, agriculture,
public health, sanitary engineering, etc. It is the science of physical
phenomena in the environment. It studies of the sources, reactions, transport,
effect and fate of chemical and biological species in the air, water, and soil,
and their effect on human activities.
We need to study the environment and the sciences applied into it to find solutions to different environmental issues so that children of tomorrow will still enjoy the healthy and a productive environment we still have now. Environmental science provides the educational specialties related to a number of subjects and issues related to environment i.e.
Ozone layer Depletion,
Noise Pollution,
Food Cycle,
Acid Rain,
Air Pollution,
Fossil fuels,
Climate change etc.
